Centered on technology and knowledge with a musical background spanning 125 years, the R-S202 has been developed through years of experience and technical skill in recipient architecture. The "new" aspect of this stereo receiver is the introduction of Bluetooth streaming technology. Combined with the sound quality of Yamaha and an enticing size, the R-S202 can be a young audiophile ticket to Musicville (I am talking to you, college boy. Key features
PerformanceI know we prefer to concentrate on high-end multi-channel Dolby Atmos receivers and sophisticated bass control systems, but let us not lose sight of the ultimate aim: to enjoy music. Yamaha has made recipients for many decades, and you could still find the Yamahas on the audio shop shelves when I was at school because they had orange neon displays. Stereo was, of course, King back in the days and CO2 tape decks were a storm. The R-S202 carries on the Yamaha legacy of excellent sound and has been upgraded to stream through Bluetooth at an inexpensive price. YAMAHA RECEIVER SPECITIONS
Design I've been testing a stereo receiver for a long time. No DAC, no bass control, no speakers' GUI implementation, no applications for gap or listening, no video processing, no sound processing, just stereo. The front panel is simple and uncut. The R-S202 has a sleek façade made of black brushed aluminum and has major push buttons for tone control and input collection, small buttons for settings, tuning FM mode, memory and speaker collection. The analog interfaces for a CD player and another two unassigned for other applications are located in the back of the machine. There are a number of rows / outs for analog domain recording. Two sets of speakers (A / B or A+B) are included in the spring video. Bare wire up to 16 gage and pin terminals is approved. That's not surprising at this price point. The neon light can be viewed clearly in the room and it is clean, not orange as it was in the eighties. The face of black brushed aluminum is smooth and smart. By using the headphone port, you must remove the speakers by unselecting A / B speakers. The remote plastic is very simple with countless little buttons that are not backlit. This can also power a Yamaha CD player. Be mindful that no App regulates the R-S202, so either you prefer the remote or you will use a Harmony to replace it. Each receiver is equipped via Bluetooth. The opportunity to download my music from the phone contributes to another dimension of this device. I know many of you have streaming devices which already feed into your home systems, so that simplifies a lot if someone starts the first way to get a better network. Configuration and use I put up a stereo so long ago that I almost forgot the easy pleasures of listening to music on two screens. What you just need is a receiver like R-S202 and some inexpensive (I didn't say free) speakers to join the Musical Nirvana. Any latest Elacs Debut B5s will suit this receiver well. Those like Pioneer SP-BS22-LRs, Zu Audio Cubes and Omens will do the same if you had a coin. We live in an era where you can get a great sound system for under $500. Should not get a great sound system on the cheap with many younger generations of budding audiophiles returning to school this fall? It took me just a few minutes to set up R-S202 to wire a spare pair of speakers from which I lied and I downloaded music in no time. It was quick and easy to pair my iPhone 6 to the receiver. There was a certain sense of independence that did not include setting speaker rates and lengths, bass control or the running of an auto-equivalent system. Then until I got the headphones properly positioned for visualization, I was just listening to some wonderful music on my dream spot. For this receiver I had the first feeling that I could replicate the entire spectrum of songs. I was delighted that there was a really strong bass in the mix. The middle range was full and the quad was good and rough. I actually hooked my Revel F12s to the Yamaha, and the level of sound was always outstanding. The F12s have 2 woofers / towers and the R-S202 didn't have any issues pushing them to very noisy speeds. The Doors "The Storm Drivers" Below are few samples of the R-S202 music I reviewed. The Doors: rider on the Wind, a jumping piano, a big sound stage with thunder from across the sky, tinkling rain and Morrison 's unmistakable voice, for many years, I have heard and found this song soothing and personal. This is fantastic headphone stuff, but it can also take you back in time with a decent stereo sound system. The R-S202 did not overlay those frequencies, but it offered a thorough natural sound drawing. I could clearly hear Jim's deep voice singing along with himself. Bass was virile, but not overwhelmed and managed. It was difficult to tell the two apart when I compared the Bluetooth stream with the CD version. "The Beauty of Gabrieli" Giovanni Gabrieli For the Cathedral of San Marco in Venice, Giovanni Gabrieli (1557-1612) composed secular and religious antiphonic music. In the chancel, the two choirs face one another and are separated by a space of 40 feet. The acoustics in the church are amazing. Instruments, located right, can be heard at distant points with complete clarity. There can be a single string player with a large group of brass players and still sound perfectly balanced. There are two boys chorus in Ecclessis (left and right), one men's chorus and a whole group of brass players in the middle. The R-S202, as reported by these outstanding CBS engineers, could cast a credible sonic scene with depth and width. The Yamaha transmitted well the reverberation and seven second decay. It was also very fun to play Pandora over my iPhone. Since there is no R-S202 video encoding, my phone has the camera app I need to move by audio. I have spent hours listening to music that suits my mood easily and conveniently. I notice that the reception of the FM tuner was at best mediocre. I live 35 km north of Boston and couldn't fly to as many stations as my Emotiva UMC-200 could. Perhaps a better antenna would improve than the one supplied. Verdict THE YAMAHA R-S202 Makes a perfect alternative for Budding 2 Channel Enthusiasts with their ease of use and bluetooth features. Things I Love
Would love to see
Read More: Onkyo TX-8020 Review And I could restore a little bit of my childhood with my few weeks with the R-S202 in the hardware loop and enjoy again the sounds with simple, old vanilla stereo.
I almost missed the easy joy of putting up two speakers and listening to songs. No complex DSP or bass control systems. No update APP. Only set up a CD player and listen to the album. Bluetooth streaming is fast, easy and perfect for listening every day. Yamaha took a good stereo receiver and made it more functional and fun. If you start as a newly activated audiophile, I suggest this receiver. The legs are easy to use and easy to wear. How would you say no at this price?
