The new A-S501 from Yamaha is a wonderfully designed device. It's sumptuous, well crafted and comfortably retro. The presence has barely differed from that of his beloved predecessor, the A-S500. Build and planThe latest amplifier still sounds powerful and the controls operate with a narrow precision that is not much more appropriate for this size. We love even the remote; it's simple and fun to use. By comparison to other rivals, the A-S501 provides the illusion that it will last years. In addition to excellent construction you can consider a valuable set of features. A good supply of line level entries (five altogether), a moving magnet phono point, headphone output and a pair of digital entries are available. The inclusion of digital inputs marks the biggest transition from its predecessor. The A-S501 is similarly optical and coaxial, all of which allow 24-bit/192kHz audio. We 'd like to see a USB option just to make it easy to connect to a device, but it isn't a killer. We will see why this device is used on a TV or Blu-ray player instead of a computer because the information kit is something that needs to happen. The amplification is stereo and of course does not decode Dolby Digital or DTS; you have to convert it to PCM in advance. This also has an uncommon flexible loudness control. The strength of people's hearing increases as sound level shifts (and the tonal quality of a traditional speaker varies with sound too). This loudness control is intended to counteract these adjustments by re-adjusting bass and triple balance. This works, so it's worth trying. Were you bluetooth? The A-S501 does not have a Bluetooth radio, so you can get a Yamaha outside model called the YBA-11, which cost about £ 50. The power to make it operate is provided by a USB link (DC only) on the back of the amplifier. Audio Long Live Two Track
When the viability of two-channel audio is in some doubt, these new Yamaha systems show that two-channel audio is alive and healthy. They are genuinely thrilling two-channel products and Yamaha is happy to give you your stereo fix. If you're a big audio enthusiast, we think you should give these new wired Yamaha amplifiers a serious look whether you enjoy music or home theatre but not two-channel audio. Audio And when we get to sound is this amplification less than fully optimistic. Our initial impressions are strong. This sound design is more robust than its ancestor. It is more stable and tonally even. The old A-S500 had a streamlined and vibrant blend with all its appeal. This latest one, by comparison, is better suited. This also goes decently noisy as 85 watts of power per channel indicates. We have tested the A-S501 by a variety of speakers, beginning with Wharfedale 's outstanding Diamond 220s, right up to the ATC SCM50 standard. We continue with the escape of Bob Marley and are delighted that this Yamaha shows so much detail. The appearance of the bass is clean and simple with a lot of weight. Marley's vocals are articulate and we like Yamaha's sense of space. Nevertheless, it is less effective in providing moving beats, which underpin the consistency of the songs. Switch to more complex things like the Danse Macabre from Saint-Saëns and the Yamaha yields mixed performance. The specifics are strong and the amplifier has a great sense of scale. We are fascinated by its large sound scene and ability to fill the picture with well-defined instruments. Nevertheless, the calm of the A-S501 fails a little as situations get difficult. This just sounds like a lost touch and loses control of delicate harmonic lines when this piece really goes. Let's make it clear; it does not fail, but that the feeling of power and stabilization is diminished, as though the amplifier can't keep up absolutely. Anything like Marantz 'PM6005 sounds much more assured in close contrast. It's always a more thrilling listen, creatively. Read More: Yamaha R-S202BL Review Judgment The Yamaha A-S501 is a powerful amplifier overall. It is very well designed and filled with valuable functionality. The step for a more natural sound is welcome but is not as enthusiastic and soothing as opposed to the best quality. It's worth remembering, but the highest one is overshadowed.

You can push your digital files and streams into the A-S501 through an Audioengine B-Fi wifi connection. It has both optical and line outputs. I have not found the 16-bit/44 Khz limit to sacrifice audible quality.
